Being the foreign ear
Her eyes widened, her voice changed pitch, and she followed up with a loud laugh. I started to laugh, thinking her story was a simple insult to a larger employee’s behind. My girlfriend leaned over to my ear to translate her sister’s story, and my facial expression matched the shock of the rest of the group’s. It was an inappropriate time to pretend comprehension. -
